Free Summer Teen Writing Workshop in Anacostia

The Anacostia Community Museum is offering a free writing workshop for teens from July 18 to 22 (10:00 am to 2:00 pm) and lunch is provided.

In this workshop “Composition in Genre and Culture,” teens learn how to write an exhibition review after touring the exhibition Word, Shout, Song: Lorenzo Dow Turner Connecting Communities through Language. Other activities include discussion and review of a related movie, poetry writing, recitation, a folktales workshop, and journal writing. Students will share their writings at the museum on July 24.

The deadline to apply for this program is Tuesday, July 5. To get an application, call (202) 633-4868. All students interested in attending this workshop are required to submit an application, provide a brief writing sample (poetry, essay, or commentary), and provide a reference from a school guidance counselor, tutor, teacher, or community leader.
